  • Owner, Myofunctional Therapist

Ashley started The Tongue Therapy Group as "The Tongue Therapist" in 2021. Previously a dental hygienist, she became passionate about myofunctional therapy and breathwork after discovering how her own tongue-tie and mouth breathing habit were greatly impacting her health and sleep quality. Shocked that she wasn't made aware of these issues with her history of working in dental offices and her dental hygiene schooling, she became passionate about educating others on the importance of oral function and helping them find relief from similar issues.

  • Myofunctional therapist

Lindsay's background is also in dental hygiene. Fun fact, she and Ashley were actually in the same class! According to Ashley she was easily the smartest student in the program. Lindsay is a mom to a 1-year-old, and continues to work as a dental hygienist part time but is passionate about her work as a myofunctional therapist and loves to take a more holistic approach to her work.

  • Myofunctional Therapist

Presh has worked as a dental hygienist for over 20 years! After learning more about proper oral function and tethered oral tissues she began seeing how much these issues have been impacting her patients. She began digging deeper and realized that she and her own kids had myofunctional issues that traditional dental trainings don't teach you to look for! This drove her to pursue myofunctional therapy to educate and help people get relief from the mouth breathing, sleep disordered breathing and oral function issues that she wishes she knew about sooner.

What is Myofunctional Therapy?

Myofunctional Therapy is a specialized treatment focused on correcting improper oral habits and muscle function. This therapy aims to restore balance to the muscles of the face and mouth, which can directly improve issues such as poor tongue posture, mouth breathing, and incorrect swallowing patterns.

The focus of myofunctional therapy is to achieve these 5 goals:

1. Constant Nasal Breathing

2. Constant Lip Seal

3. Proper Tongue Posture at Rest

4. Proper Tongue Movement While Swallowing

5. Eliminating Muscle Compensations

This is achieved by utilizing targeted exercises for the muscles of the face, lips, tongue and soft palate to strengthen and coordinate the muscles and retrain your body’s subconscious habits.
